MS Dhoni Breaks Silence on IPL Future, Says He Wants to Enjoy Cricket "Like a Child"
Summary: MS Dhoni, set to play as an uncapped player for CSK in IPL 2025, shares insights on his future, love for cricket, and advice for young players. Read what the legend has to say about his journey ahead.
MS Dhoni Breaks Silence on IPL Future, Says He Wants to Enjoy Cricket “Like a Child”
Despite retiring from international cricket nearly six years ago, MS Dhoni remains a vital figure in the Indian Premier League (IPL). As he gears up for IPL 2025 with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the legendary captain has finally spoken about his future, emphasizing his desire to continue playing cricket for as long as he can, just as he did in his childhood.
The 43-year-old former India captain, who led the national team to historic victories in the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy, last played for India in June 2019 before officially retiring from international cricket in August 2020. However, he continues to be a key player for CSK, who retained him ahead of the IPL mega auction last year.
Dhoni on His Cricketing Future
Speaking at the launch event of his new app powered by Single.id, Dhoni reflected on his post-retirement journey and his motivation to keep playing.
“I’ve retired since 2019, so it has been quite some time. What I’ve been doing in the meantime is just enjoying cricket for whatever few years I have left to play.”
The veteran cricketer added that he wants to embrace the sport with the same enthusiasm and innocence he had as a child.
“I want to enjoy it the way I did in my school days. When I lived in a colony, 4 PM was sports time. We played cricket more often than not, and if the weather didn’t permit, we played football. I want to play with that same innocence… but it’s easier said than done.”
“India Always Came First for Me” – Dhoni’s Perspective on Priorities
Dhoni emphasized that during his international career, his focus was solely on representing India and bringing glory to the country.
“As a cricketer, I always wanted to perform for India. Not everyone gets a chance to represent their country, so whenever we went on the big stage, our goal was to win laurels for India. That always came first for me.”
Advice to Young Cricketers
Offering guidance to aspiring cricketers, Dhoni stressed the importance of discipline and prioritization.
“You always need to figure out what is good for you. When I was playing, I ensured cricket was my top priority—nothing else mattered. My sleep schedule, training, and lifestyle all revolved around what would benefit my game.”
“Friendships, fun, and social life—those can happen later. There is a right time for everything. If you recognize that, it’s the best thing you can do for yourself.”
Dhoni’s IPL 2025 Role & CSK Future
For IPL 2025, Dhoni will be playing as an uncapped player, as he has been retired from international cricket for more than five years. While speculation about his retirement from IPL continues, fans are hopeful that the CSK talisman will continue to entertain them for another season.
As Dhoni steps onto the field once again, the cricketing world will be watching to see if this IPL season marks the final chapter of his legendary career or if he still has more to offer on the grand stage.
